description

The last motorway service area in France for those travelling from the north, and the first for those travelling from the south, the Village Catalan is an atypical site. The idea was to build an original motorway service area before the border, as a showcase for the department. Architect Bertran de Balanda presented his project, a replica of a Catalan village with its streets, central square and bell tower. There is also a contemporary fountain, and a slightly hidden sculpture by Paul Belmondo, in homage to motorway diggers.
